Susan and Louise grew up on their grandfather's ranch which adjoins the Tobin property. She states there originally was no fenceline between the properties, but a fence is there now. Nathan and Olive M. DeBree purchased 640 acres in 1909 from the Blevins and then homesteaded 160 acres adjascent to their land. The DeBrees property is located in Section 26, 11 North, 5 West.

Activities in the early days of Birdseye, Montana included fishing and hunting. Susan thought it strange people would always wear their dress up clothes do such activities as compared to current day clothing.

Susan relates whenever there was a railroad accident (and there were a lot of them), residents in the community where the accident occurred would pick through the wreckage and take items back to their ranches. She says this is how a second home was built on her grandfather's ranch, using lumber picked up from the wreckage and using it for building materials. Basically, "use, reuse, wear out, then throw out" was the motto of the day.
Susan Debree Moran relates there was a Birdseye Baseball team that did really well for themselves in the 1920s. She states they won a lot of games and would probably be in the Helena Independent Record newspaper.
