Hi Karylyn, I enjoyed reading all your entries. Since I grew up at Birdseye all yours posts were very interesting to me. Some of the pictures also contain my relatives...Juliet (Jerry) DeBree, Frank Gumprecht(my uncle) Roland Gumprecht and Don Gumprecht (my 1st cousins). Birdseye was a small community where everyone knew everyone.
There are some differences in the information as I was told. We should research to see which is correct. A couple of the things are: May Butler was teacher at Austin not Birdseye. Also the railroad was always the Northern Pacific as I remember. The Great Northern ran between Helena-Butte.
My Dad and Grandma always referred to the Indians as The Rocky Boy Indians. They were part of the tribe that did not go to the reservation. I don;t ever remember hearing the chief being called Chief Rocky Boy. Is it possible you are confusing it with tribe name. Lets both research it.
I will call you sometime. I have had lots of company over the holidays.
Wonderful posts and I love the pictures.
