PATRICK TOBIN, b. 1883, d. 7 Nov 1897

Patrick Tobin was born 3 Sep 1883 in Fargo, North Dakota to Richard and Mary Tobin.

There is some confusion as to whether Patrick is the second child or third child.  This is due to his sister, Mary Tobin, having discrepancies in her birth year.  I believe Patrick was the second born child due to Mary's birth date listed on her christening certificate of 31 Aug 1885, even though Mary's death certificate and headstone state a birth year of 1882 [see Mary's info page].

At the age of 14, Patrick was helping some men herd sheep up at the Tobin ranch at Birdseye and he was thrown from his horse and suffered a broken neck and died on 7 November 1897.  Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Helena, Lewis and Clark, Montana.

[There is no known photograph of Patrick Tobin.]

RESEARCH NOTES:

Patrick Tobin christened 30 Sep 1883 in St. Mary's Cathedral, Fargo, North Dakota.  NOTE:  father is Richard Tobin and mother is listed as Mary RICKETTS.  Patrick's birth date is listed as 3 Sep 1883 in an unknown city.  A special thanks to Benda Neuenswander for this document.

According to Benda Neuenswander's notes, Patrick Tobin's burial occurred on 9 Nov 1897 at the "Catholic Cemetery, Block 4, Lot 47."  Flaherty Funeral Home handled his body, and his birth is listed as being in Fargo, North Dakota.  NOTE:  He is not buried in the family plot with mom and dad, sister Mary, and brother Joseph.  Benda remembers hearing a story around 1970 that Patrick's burial plot was accidently covered with cement during a construction project when the cemetery was first being developed.  Resurrection Cemetery is believed to be his internment.
