Frank Tobin was born 28 Apr 1899 in Birdseye, Montana to Richard and Mary Tobin.

Frank Tobin married Dorothy "Dot" Cooper (b. 26 Jan 1904, Edgewood, IL, parents=Harry Cooper and Louisa Goodnight) on 27 August 1924 in Helena, Montana.  They have four children:

• Mary Lou Tobin, b. 12 Mar 1925, Helena, MT
• Frank McKay Tobin, b. 9 May 1926, Helena, MT
• Robert Rex "Bob" Tobin, b. 10 Jun 1929, Helena, MT
• John Patrick Tobin, b. 1943, Helena, MT

Prior to retiring in 1962, Frank worked 32 years with the Montana State Highway Department.  During this time, he and his wife owned and operated the Grand View Hotel, 1827 Prospect, Helena, Montana.

Frank Tobin died 22 Mar 1972 of "artheriosclerosis heart disease (onset=years), and severe asthma" in Helena, Montana.  Internment in Forestvale Lawn Cemetery, Helena, Lewis and Clark, Montana.

According to the Valleys of the Prickley Pear "Early Austin Area Resident", Dorothy's mother, Louisa, was a telegrapher at Skyline. Her children were June Colley, Betty, Helen, Ward, Dorothy Tobin, and Rex Cooper.  Dorothy "Dot" Cooper Tobin died 25 Dec 1977 in Helena, MT.  Internment in Forestvale Lawn Cemetery, Helena, Lewis and Clark, Montana.

• Mary Lou Tobin married Thomas Schmitz in the 10 Jun 1950 in Helena, MT.  Mary Lou Tobin Schmitz died 9 Nov 2009 in Helena, MT. Interment unknown. They have three children: Steve, Missy, and Charmaine.
• Steve Schmitz married Jennifer Williams They have two children: Amanda, and Spencer.
• Spencer married Kristina Svoboda.
• Missy Schmitz married Al Weinfurtner, Sr. They have two children: Al Jr., and Terry.
• Terry married Patricia ?
• Charmaine Schmitz married Dennis McLaughlin. They have three children: Landon, Emily, and Kristen

Mary Lou's obituary states:  "Mama Lou was born to Frank and Dorothy Cooper Tobin on March 12, 1925, in Payette, Idaho, and a year later the family settled in Helena.  She met Tom Schmitz and was married in the spring of 1950. 


Tom and Mary Lou left Montaina in 1959 for a time in Denver.  They later moved to Omaha, where she became a devoted Cornhusker fan and raised three beloved children.  In 1977, they moved back to Helena where they owned and operated the Capital Auto Supply until they retired in 1983.


After returning to Helena, Mary Lou became very active in the Helena Symphony Guild and sat on the board for Helena Industries.  She had a big place in her heart for the "special people."


In 1995, she began working with the Montana Legislative Session.  Her final session was in 2005, where she was the clerk of the House Appropriations Committee.


Mama Lou was never short of finding an excuse to host a party and cook for family and friends.  She enjoyed her cooking, the Cornhuskers, Tiger Woods and anything Irish.  Those who met her found an instant friend who had a great sense of humor and a wide smile."

Mary Lou Tobin Schmitz died on 9 Nov 2009 following a brief illness in Helena, Montana.  Internment unknown.

• Frank McKay Tobin married Barbara Bernice Sanford (b. 15 May 1927) on 7 Mar 1948 in Helena, MT and later divorced in 1970. They have two children: Patricia Joy, and Michael James.
• Patricia Joy Tobin married Joseph Peter Mazurek.  They have three children: Thomas Kuennnig, Jeffery Frank, and Daniel Charles. 
• Thomas K. Mazurek married Kathryn Crawford Roming.  They have one child: Elizabeth Kathryn Mazurek
• Jeffery Frank Mazurek married Dannielle Christine Cooper]
• Michael James Tobin married Peggy Jean Reynolds.  They have two daughters: Michelle Jennifer, and Meghan Jessica.
• Michelle J. Tobin married Shaun Michael Huck
• Meghan Jessica Tobin married Travis Darryll Barnes.  They have one child: Kasen Russell Barnes

Patty Mazurek relates: "Frank graduated from Helena High School and was drafted into the Army during World War II.  He served for 27 months, returning to Helena and attending first Carroll College (for three semesters) and then MSU in Bozeman, receiving a degree in Civil Engineering. 


Frank was recalled to the Army during the Korean conflict (deferred until he completed his degree) and served at Camp Roberts in California.  Upon returning to Helena with his family, he worked for the State of Montana.  His work for the Dept. of Transportation included designing a bridge near Tosten.  Later he became an independent contractor and built the homes his family lived in on 9th Avenue, a 4-plex on 6th, and a 6-plex at 316 Oregon where he lived for many years.


Frank then received his professional engineering license and worked for the Ken R. White Company out of Denver, CO, continuing to design roads and interstates in Montana.  After leaving Ken R. White, Frank got into property development which included an apartment complex near St. Pete's Hospital and a housing development near Canyon Ferry.  Since retirement, he's been found helping with various projects such as remodeling at Patty & Joe's and building a new house with Mike and Peg.  "Grandpa Frank" has spent hours watching his grandchildren in sports events, theater, and choir, and orchestra concerts.  He also loves those family gatherings, especially when there's pie!"

• Robert "Bob" Rex Tobin married Billy Jean Carbis  They have three children: Jane A.,  and twin sons Stuart Kelly, and Stacey R. "Bob".

• Stuart Kelly Tobin was born 13 Oct 1959 and died 16 Dec 2006 in Sacramento, CA.  Stuart was married to Denise Walczykowsk in 1978 and later divorced in the 1990s.  They have two children:  Lisa and Greg.

Bob attended schools in Helena and graduated from Helena High School in 1947.  He then entered the Marine Corps where he served during the Korean War.

After his discharge, he returned to Helena where he worked for the Internal Revenue Service.  Bob transferred to San Francisco, CA., where he was the special agent for the Treasury Department.  While in San Francisco, he attended college.


Bob retired in 1978 due to his health and returned to Helena, MT.  He was a member of the Retired Federal Employees Association. 


Robert Rex "Bob" Tobin died 10 May 1982 at the Veterans Administration Hospital at Fort Harrison, MT.  Internment in Forestvale Cemetery, Helena, Lewis and Clark, Montana.

• John Patrick Tobin married Penny Kahna and later divorced in 1984.  They have two children: Patrick and Timothy Tobin.

• Timothy Tobin married Deborah Schell  in 1992.  They had a daughter Alyssa 19 May 1997.  Both Deborah and Alyssa died 13 Feb 1998.  Timothy married Carrie Hoyt in 2002 and divorced 2015.  They have two children: Hannah Nicole (2002) and Ian Patrick (2008).
